Jericho cancelled
CBS issued this statement:
“The March 25 episode of Jericho will be the series finale. Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We’re proud of everyone’s efforts.”
I think this is a fair statement. At least the fans got them to give the show a second chance.

I think a good translation of this would be “Hey, while the writers strike was on we learned people will actually watch even more reality TV than we figured, so why the heck should we pay for expensive dramas when a shows about dancing has-beens and bad singers are the top shows on the air?” Back when they tried to cancel the original BSG series it was about the number 1 show on the air, but it cost much more to make it than they brought in from commercials, so it had to be canceled. Honestly, I think this show suffers from the same budget problems as many sci-fi shows- it costs MUCH more to produce than a reality show or a crappy sitcom with 2 sets and 5 actors! It requires incredible ratings to justify the cost of making episodes compared to crappy TV.

I almost feel like this was a given! At least we got a conclusion of sorts. I wasn’t as happy with this second season, since it felt very rushed, but again, an ending is better than a show left hanging, which is usually what scifi fans get!
